Well It has definitely been a while since starting this blog and I have not been the best yet about keeping up with it as everyone may have noticed. It’s not to say we haven’t been doing anything since then, life just got in the way. I will be better from here on out because a lot has happened in the past few months.

As everyone knows Kyle & I grew up in Dallas so when the opportunity came up to be able to take an assignment in that area and get to spend some time with his family we took it. We were there from September until Christmas. We stayed at the Jellystone in Burleson…yes Jellystone like Yogi the Bear! We have stayed at a few of the Jellystone parks on summer vacations and other trips so why not now when we know it is a kid/pet friendly place. We all met some wonderful people while staying there…ALL of us, the dogs included and enjoyed getting to spend time with the family we don’t usually get to see but on holidays or weekends. Being from the DFW area and it being fall we of course went to the State Fair! We also went to Enchant, which was a beautiful Christmas light display near the Ballpark, as well as our normal Gaylord Texan visit to see all the Christmas fun there.

So here comes the BIG news that explains the title of this post…we’re in ALASKA!! Not only are we in Alaska but we drove, in the wintertime! It was a long 8 days but it was beautiful and so worth it. We drove what would usually take about 2 weeks in 8 days because of the timing of everything to get up here to start work. We started in the Basin of course and stayed in Casper, Wyoming; Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;  Dawson Creek, BC, Canada; Fort Nelson, BC, Canada; Watson Lake, YT, Canada; Whitehorse, YT, Canada and Beaver Creek, YT, Canada. We drove the Famous Alcan Highway…not in entirety but we’ll see the last part before we head back.

For this Alaskan adventure we are staying & working in Anchorage. We’ve been here a little over 3 weeks now and will be here until almost the end of April. One of these days I will get to see Alaska in the summer, until then I will enjoy my second winter up here, this time with my whole family…dogs included. Speaking of the dogs, they have mixed feelings about the snow. Jack is loving it. Loves to play in it, loves to eat it, loves it! Rose, well she likes to eat it but that seems to be about it. They are quite entertaining to take outside to say the least. The 2 legged child is loving the snow of course. I mean he’s a Boy Scout who spends the majority of his time outdoors so he better right? He even made a joke last week that the next winter camp he may be warm after being here. (Little does he know even after us telling him Texas cold is different.) He will learn that when the time comes.

We took a lot of pictures on our drive up because when you live in the Permian Basin all you see is brown and flat so when you see mountains and snow and Buffalo you tend to take a lot of pictures. There are also some that are quite “touristy” because we drove the Alcan and used The Milepost as out guide along the way to be able to enjoy  it all and be “touristy.” I will try to post as many as I can now if I cannot post them all, as well as try not to post duplicates. We have many adventures to come while here but for now here are the pictures that we got on the drive up.

Megan, Kyle and Noah

As most of you know over the past year we have jumped in feet first as travelers with work. For those that didn’t know…surprise!! Kyle works in radiology specializing in X-ray/CT and I am an RN who specializes in Case Management and nursery. What does that mean you ask?  We can work anywhere in the U.S. in our specialized areas at any facility that needs help due to strike, being under staffed, disasters and needing extra hands, really just helping out as needed where we’re needed.

We don’t walk into any hospital whenever and say “hey, we’re working here now.” We have recruiters that work very hard at finding us contracts that benefit our entire family which is not as easy at it may sound. Not all hospitals need us at the same time or for the same amount of time. On top of that we have a 12-year-old son that is homeschooled and very active in Boy Scouts, two blue heelers who are just very active, and we are doing all of this in our fifth wheel toy hauler so we have our home no matter where we go. That is why I say our recruiters work very hard, they work to make sure we have anything and everything we need to make sure our family is set when we get to our location.

With that being said, we thought starting a blog would be the best way for everyone who wanted to keep up with our adventures to do so. Why start it after we’ve already worked as travelers for a year or so? We haven’t done this all together as a family in our “house on wheels” until now. We want you all to be able to see all the cool places we get to see together as a family, places we wouldn’t get to see otherwise. Instead of saving forever to take a vacation somewhere, we’ll get to live there and enjoy everything there is to enjoy. We won’t have to squeeze “all the fun stuff” into a week or two and hope it all gets done. There’s a big world out there and this family wants to be part of it.

This is not something we decided on a whim, it is something all three of us decided together…as a family. I hope this helps everyone get a little glimpse into what we are doing and why we are doing it, we’re all very excited for the adventure. It’s going to be a fun ride, so sit back and enjoy!
